Emily Congdon holds a Bachelors’ degree in Nursing from Cornell University. She began her nursing career as a Visiting Nurse in East Harlem, New York, NY. She continued to work in Home Health Care settings as she transitioned from direct patient care to Clinical Supervisor, Branch Director and National Quality Performance Improvement Coordinator.
Emily has extensive background in leadership and Performance Improvement. For over 15 years she has served as a V. P. of Quality and Performance Improvement for acute care hospitals on the east coast (HCA Hospitals) and west coast (Hoag Hospital- Newport Beach, CA). Her responsibilities included development, directing, execution and outcomes measurement for the clinical performance improvement plan for the organization incorporating the mission, vision and core values of the organization and regulatory requirements.
Emily has been a dynamic leader with strong interpersonal skills with physician and healthcare professional partnership, strategic growth, quality and service and financial stewardship. She has created balance-baseline strategy for quality and value initiatives for Service Line Programs and Centers of Excellence focusing on improved clinical care and patient satisfaction. Throughout her acute care experience, she has successfully achieved Joint Commission Accreditation and regulatory agency compliance; as well as awards for patient safety and quality.
Emily recently retired from Acute Healthcare and transferred her passion to upholding the standards of care for healthcare through Legal Nurse Consulting. She completed a Legal Nurse Certificate program and is a member of the National and Phoenix Chapter for Legal Nurse Consultants. She has recently founded Benchmark Consulting, LLC and will be focusing on annotated medical record chronology for medical malpractice, personal injury, negligence and hospital regulatory compliance.
Jackie recently graduated from Summit Law and is sitting this year for the AZ Bar Exam. Her nursing experience includes more than 15 years as an ER Nurse and Unit Manager in Oregon. She's also a Law Student Liaison for the ABA Health Law Section's Nursing and Allied Healthcare Professionals Task Force. She's a member of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys (TAANA.)
Carolyn Kjer, MSN, RN, LNCC, has been a nurse for nearly four decades. She as worked as a legal nurse consultant for more than 20 years between Arizona and Georgia as an independent contractor and as a legal nurse with a law firm and the risk management department of two regional hospital systems. Her clinic experience includes critical care, cardiovascular, orthopedic, home health, hospital education and administration.
Carolyn joined AALNC National in 1992 and was certified as an AALNC LNCC in 2001. She was a member of the Phoenix chapter from 1992 through 1998. She became an active member of the Atlanta Chapter from 1998 through 2009 and served as treasurer 2007-2008. She joined the Phoenix chapter again in 2009 and has served as newsletter chair since 2013.
